Privacy
GameHunch is a small, independent site. It collects as little as possible and never sells or shares your data.
What we store
- If you create an account: your username, a securely hashed version of your password (we can't see your actual password), and the games you log in your library (status, rating, price paid, date, notes).
- Your wishlist: the games you add, and any target price you set.
- If you import your Steam library: we read your public Steam profile name, avatar, and the games you own with their playtime, through Steam's official Web API. We use them to personalise your results and keep them in memory for up to 30 minutes, without saving them to disk. Your Steam ID is kept in your browser so you don't have to import again, and you can remove it any time with the Remove button.
- If you share your picks: we save the games you entered (and what you loved about them) and the games we picked, at a public link that anyone you send it to can open. It doesn't include your username, your Steam library or anything else about you. Share pages are hidden from search engines.
- If you send feedback: your message, category and rating, plus your username if you're signed in.
- On your device: one cookie that keeps you signed in, and your search filters and 👍/👎 votes in your browser's local storage. Your votes are sent with each search to rank the results, and aren't stored on our server. There are no advertising or tracking cookies, so there is no cookie banner.
Visitor counts
We count page views and daily visitors on our own server, without cookies or third-party trackers. When a page opens, a small script from our own site tells our server which page it was and which site linked to it, so pages that bots download aren't counted as visits. To tell visitors apart for a single day, we combine your IP address and browser with a random value that is replaced every day, and keep a short scrambled version of it for that day only. Both are deleted at midnight (UTC), so a restart of our server doesn't count you twice but nothing is kept longer than a day. To count how many different people visited over a week or a month, each day also keeps a small anonymous tally (a HyperLogLog sketch, kept for four months) that can only be combined into totals, such as how many of a day's visitors had visited before. It holds no record of any visitor, so it can't be used to pick anyone out. Your IP address itself is never stored, and nothing lets us recognise you on another day. We save only daily totals: how many visits, which of our pages were viewed, and which site linked to us.
Third parties
Game prices and details come from the Steam store, and game images load directly from Steam's servers, so Valve can see that your browser requested those images. We don't use third-party analytics, ads or social media trackers.
Deleting your data
You can delete your account and your whole library at any time: sign in, click your name in the top right, and choose Delete account. It's removed immediately. Feedback you sent stays, but without your username.
